Appeals court case results in landmark decision
In 1981, a woman walked into the offices of Haufler Associates. Her name was Jane Lavin, and she had just signed a divorce agreement on the hood of her car. Her kids had been screaming in the back seat, and she was in the middle of moving to a new home. When she argued with her husband, he threatened her - telling her that he would stop payment on the deposit for the new home—the home she had intended to move into with her children. Jane Lavin was understandably upset. Haufler Associates paved the way for a victory in the Massachusetts Appeals Court. The landmark decision is now a part of Massachusetts law.

Practical approach produces quick resolution
About ten years ago, a builder prepared to begin a construction project. Little did he expect the resistance he encountered from a neighboring property owner. The construction was held up for months—costing the builder and his investors thousands of dollars in delays and legal fees. Finally fed up with the lack of progress, the builder turned to Haufler Associates. Christian Haufler, the lead attorney on the case, took a practical approach. He called the neighbor. Christian discovered that the property owner opposed the construction for reasons related to drainage and the eyesore the new construction would impose. He worked out an agreement to create a buffer strip between the new construction and the neighboring property—thus, facilitating a mutually satisfactory agreement that produced fast results.
